Weekly poll: Will you buy a Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra or a Z Flip8?

Weekly poll: Will you buy a Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra or a Z Flip8?

Samsung believes that foldables are the future – and, perhaps, that wide models like the new Galaxy Z Fold8 are the future of foldables. What do you think?

Starting with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, despite its plain name, this is a brand new category for the Galaxy foldable family. And while this isn’t the first wide foldable to hit the market, it’s the one that will have the widest reach on the global market. At least until Apple releases its first foldable, which is rumored to be a wide one.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8: A New Wide Form Factor

We have a hands-on review with the Z Fold8, plus an in-depth look at its design, performance, and camera capabilities. The device features a 7.6-inch inner display and a 6.2-inch cover screen, both with improved brightness and refresh rates. Under the hood, it’s powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

Camera and Battery Upgrades

The camera system has been overhauled with a 200MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The battery capacity remains at 4,400mAh, but charging speeds have been bumped to 45W wired and 25W wireless. Samsung also promises four generations of OS updates and five years of security patches.

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Bigger and Bolder

If the standard Z Fold8 isn’t enough, the Z Fold8 Ultra takes things further. It sports a larger 8.1-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover screen. The Ultra model also includes a built-in S Pen slot, a 5,000mAh battery, and a 108MP main camera with improved image processing. However, it’s slightly thicker and heavier than the standard model.

Performance and Durability

Both the Z Fold8 and Z Fold8 Ultra use the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, but the Ultra gets 16GB of RAM as standard. Durability has been improved with Armor Aluminum frames and Gorilla Glass Victus 3 on both the front and back. The IP rating remains at IPX8 for water resistance, but dust resistance is still not officially rated.

The Galaxy Z Flip8: Compact and Colorful

For those who prefer a clamshell design, the Galaxy Z Flip8 offers a compact form factor with a 6.7-inch inner display and a 3.4-inch cover screen. The cover screen now supports more widgets and quick replies. The device is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, but with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of storage.

Camera and Battery Life

The Z Flip8 features a 50MP main camera and a 12MP ultrawide, with improved night mode and portrait capabilities. The battery is 3,700mAh with 25W wired charging and 15W wireless. Samsung has also added a new Flex Mode that allows for hands-free video calls and content consumption.

Pricing and Availability

The Galaxy Z Fold8 starts at $1,799, while the Z Fold8 Ultra is priced at $2,199. The Z Flip8 is more affordable at $999. Pre-orders begin today, with general availability starting on August 11. Carrier deals and trade-in offers are expected to reduce the upfront cost significantly.

Which One Should You Choose?

If you want the best multitasking experience and don’t mind the larger size, the Z Fold8 Ultra is the ultimate choice. For a balance of portability and productivity, the standard Z Fold8 is a great option. And if you value compactness and style, the Z Flip8 is perfect for you.
